According to my undergraduate transcript, I am a science nerd. Now in my final semester as a digital media and storytelling grad student, I realized I am no longer a scientist but an artist. I have always loved how an artist can bring something hidden to life, so it seems presumptuous to identify myself as one. I pursued a career in medicine to make a difference in people's lives. Since shifting careers, I struggle to see how my contribution to art can make a difference.
Like every museum curator knows, a work of art, regardless of genre, is as unique as the creator. So, I went in search of other Chicago female artists who find purpose in different art forms. During the process, I have had the sweet opportunity to tell the stories of some wicked cool women. And I think you will find each artist— fueled by a fierce heart for people— to be a difference maker.
